The discard pile is frozen to start the game. A black Three played to the discard pile also freezes the pile. It remains frozen until a player can pick up the top discard with a matching natural pair and meet the initial meld points. You score points by melding cards, and making as many canastas as possible. A canasta is a meld of at least seven cards of the same rank. Each player starts with 15 cards in hand. Yours are visible at the bottom of the window.
Canasta Rules
- The object of Canasta is to be the first player to reach 5000 points in the game. Points are achieved by melding (laying out) sets of 3 or more cards of the same rank and making “canastas”, which are sets of 7 cards of the same rank.
