The Dolnet saxophones are well known by the powerful sound and great spontaneity of the blowing. They are solid and well-built, well tuned, definitely really professional instruments! This sale is a Series II, 22xxx which is supposed to date back to the mid 40′. The instrument is well made from the structural point of view, has not received. DOLNET Country of manufacture: France Production span: 1888-1994. Dolnet horns were produced in very small numbers by a small French workshop that specialized in saxes. Production of saxophones was no more than about 500 horns per year. Be aware this is more likely to be a Series I Dolnet Tenor Saxophone based on the visual pictures and comments I have received from other Ebayers. On 19-Apr-21 at 18:17:48 BST, seller added the following information: Just in addition another Ebayer said this might be 19th Century Dolnet but again this definitely earlier than a Series II Saxophone.
1940s Dolnet Series II Silver Plated Alto Saxophone
- Status: $Sold
- Finish: Original Silver Plate
- Serial Number: 24,xxx
1940's Vintage, S/N 24,xxx Here's a great vintage alto all original silver plate. This alto comes from the mid 1940's. Dolnet is a great French made saxophone in production since the 1880's. Cosmetically, these are known for their hexagonal keyguards. I haven't had one in here for a couple years, these 40's models are nice heavy horns, stronger metal than the Bel air model, with a big Conn type sound, that is warm and fat

Things aren’t always what they seem! Many times an instrument stamped with one name was actually made by another manufacturer. The identity of the true maker is often impossible to trace, but here are a few of the most commonly seen “stencils” and their true identity. These horns are NOT the same as the manufacturer’s “house brand” and do NOT follow the same serial number sequence. There is almost no information available on Asian made stencils. There are plenty more out there that do not appear on this list because I am unsure of their origin. It was not at all uncommon for a company to source horns from multiple vendors, hence multiple entries.
